Great stuff Louise. Really helpful to be made aware of some of the potential uses for a Kete. Thank you.

Interesting. You’d think the programme of events as a temporary product would be better off on the website. Any comments?

Wouldn’t it be great if we had a kete for History of our Libraries? We could do old photos, and relevant news clippings, interviews with old managers etc…

Perhaps the events being in the kete is their way of storing what has been done in the past both as a record of the events and also to help with future planning of similar events? If, as well as the programme, photos and video of performances were added it would make for quite a dynamic record. I’ve tended to think of the kete concept as being local history oriented but that’s possibly quite limiting. In essence it’s a container for anything we want it to be for???

I used these examples because they show the variety of ways in which communities are successfully using their ketes. There is real community buy in, which is great, because that is the whole point of the kete. They’re not a library website after all, but a community repository, which the libraries oversee and direct.
I found a few suprises, one kete appeared to be mainly advertsing for local businesses, and one Kete only had 10 things in it!
It would be very good to have the Tasman libraries histories as a showcase, we will be making a digital story about the Richmond Library, which can be posted on the kete.
