I recently noted a “Nelson Mail” article about the addition of Library Thing to the Nelson Public Library catalogue The article is here on the NCC website. Is this option something we might consider? The recent bookmark campaign is a good idea, but this would enable library users to get their opinions to a larger audience. Perhaps adding user reviews to our Staff Picks section on the TasLib website might be an alternative option?

Hi All – hope you don’t mind I still follow this blog. Any way – I wrote to the libraries section of library thing about 10 months ago – asking if their library specific programme would work with our spydus. At that time they were developing for Spydus 8 and promised to get back to me if it was going to work with our version of spydus. Naturally i didn’t hold much hope since not even Civica are developing anything for 6.5.3 But once you roll onto anything new – you should be able to get librarything for libraries. and its quite inexpensive!!

I would love to see us hooking into LibraryThing once we have an LMS that will let us! In the meantime I am looking at setting up a LibraryThing account for the Weds Richmond book group. The group is going into recess from July until the building project is completed. So having a LibThing account in the meantime is one way to keep the group motivated to share their reading with each other – and the wider world! Once I’ve set it up I’ll share the password with you all and everyone can contribute their reading if you want.
It would be great if we could get customers to contribute to the staff picks page (would need re-naming of course). Perhaps if we had a library wiki it might enable that to happen?

Hi, everyone. LibraryThing is on the list of database subscriptions that we may purchase as a region. Glenn in Marlborough is tasked with looking at this. I hope when we update our software next year that one way or the other we’ll have customer reviews and star ratings on our stock. Some libraries have been able to negotiate a jumpthrough link for customers to place an order with bookstores (for a fee of course!). Lots of opportunities – it’s all about timing, technical platform and budgets. Keep up the interesting thinking!

The latest from Civica, our Spydus software company, is that Spydus does now integrate with Library Thing.
